How do self build mortgages work?

Self build projects are usually completed in stages. We offer flexible stage releases, meaning we'll release funds at stages to suit your client - meaning your client will only pay interest on the funds released rather than the total loan upfront. Our self build mortgages are also arrears-based.

This type of mortgage is ideal for borrowers have a lump sum ready to fund a deposit on the land, as well as the first stages of the build - the money for each build stage is then paid at the end once the work has been completed.

If your client has a lot of cash savings or has sold their previous home ready to purchase the land and fund the build, this type of mortgage may be the best option.

We can lend on an interest-only basis during the build and offer a penalty-free switch to a residential loyalty product after the build is complete.
